An formal request is anticipated to be made to India in order to discuss potential partnerships during the upcoming BRICS summit, which Russia will host. A leading Russian scientific organization has expressed interest in working with Indian research institutions to develop quantum software and hardware for public services as India advances in the field of quantum technology.

As per the nonprofit Russian Quantum Center, at the following gathering of the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—scheduled for the following year, a formal proposal will be made to establish such a collaboration with India. According to Ruslan Yunusov, co-founder of the Russian Quantum Center, Russian institutes are already in discussions with certain research centers in India to work together on developing various parts of quantum technologies. To explore potential partnerships in the upcoming BRICS summit, which Russia will host, an official proposal is anticipated to be made before India.

“There are no signed contracts yet, but India has done a lot of work around quantum technology. We are already in talks with some research institutes in India to explore areas where we can use their expertise and also share our knowledge and work in the field,” said Yunusov.

Since India announced its National Quantum Mission in April, many rounds of negotiations for cooperation have been held with Russian delegations; however, as of now, these discussions are only taking place at the level of individual institutes, according to a department of science and technology official. The administration has not made any decisions about collaborations to exchange technology or knowledge with the Russian government.

“It is common for institutes to express interest in knowledge and technology sharing, but nothing concrete has come from it yet,” the official said, requesting anonymity.
