FREMONT, CA: Audi announces deployment of Nvidia Tegra X1 in its self-driving cars. Tegra X1 is the latest cutting edge mobile chip built by the Nvidia that has over one teraflops of processing power delivering unprecedented graphics, deep learning and computer vision applications. Audi deploys this latest chip in its cars to realize automotive with self-piloting capabilities. Nvidia has developed an auto-pilot car computer called Nvidia Drive PX which runs on two Tegra X1 processors. This computer can handle video inputs from up to 12 onboard cameras to provide a seamless 360-degree view around the car and provides self-parking capabilities. “We’re very close to reality,” said Ricky Hudi, EVP for Electrics/Electronics Development, Audi. “We’re not demonstrating a vision. We’re demonstrating what will be reality.” The machine learning capabilities of Tegra X1 enables the car to sense, recognize, and classify objects on the road. To begin with, Audi is expected to implement self-driving features in premium cars and then brings this feature to its other models. Tegra X1 is based on the Nvidia Maxwell GPU architecture which provides energy efficiency in computing and a host of other features such as control logic partitioning, workload efficiency, compiler-based scheduling. This computing chip is built for embedded products, mobile devices, autonomous machines, and automotive applications and delivers twice the performance of its predecessor Tegra K1.
