Stellantis and Ample have signed a contractual agreement to form a cooperation in electric vehicle (EV) battery charging technology capable of charging an EV battery in less than five minutes. The two companies have agreed to collaborate to incorporate Ample's Modular Battery Swapping system into Stellantis electric vehicles. Battery switching technology enables an EV consumer to have their depleted EV battery swapped out for a fully charged battery in a matter of minutes by stopping at a battery swapping station.

 

The two companies are also in discussions regarding the expansion of the application of Ample’s Modular Battery Swapping Technology to meet Stellantis fleet and consumer demand across other Stellantis platforms and geographies, as per Stellantis.

 

The pilot initiative is scheduled to begin in 2024 in Madrid, Spain, with a fleet of 100 Fiat 500es from Stellantis' Free2move car sharing service. The Fiat 500e is Stellantis' best-selling electric vehicle globally, and it leads in numerous European regions.
